My Labrador had 3 babies on Friday (it's now Tuesday) she has started digging behind the chair in the living room and occasionally lies there away from the pups who are in the whelping box. Is this normal? She's alert to them when they cry and will go over and sort them out and feed them but once they come out and starts digging again. She is attending to them when they cry and will clean them.

That sounds like nesting behavior which is completely normal! She's probably just trying to create a safe space away from the puppies when she needs a break.

As a vet, I can confirm this is completely normal. Many mother dogs need occasional breaks from nursing. Make sure she has easy access to food, water, and a comfortable space.
